Pre- & post-operative

There are many benefits to be gained from lymphatic drainage before and after surgery. Lymphatic drainage activates the resorption of oedema (swelling) and ecchymosis (bruising), due to an accumulation of lymph in the operated areas, which not only enables faster recovery, but also relieves pain. It also promotes tissue regeneration, reducing the formation and severity of scars, which can be unsightly and sometimes painful.

  • When the body has undergone surgery, it has damaged the lymphatic system. To remove the swelling after surgery, we use manual lymph drainage to divert the lymph into healthier lymph vessels.

Thanks to this bypass, we can also prepare the body for surgery. We're already giving the lymph a new path so that it doesn't clog up the tissues after the operation.

  • Before surgery , it is recommended to apply lymphatic drainage for one to three sessions for optimal results,

After surgery, manual lymphatic drainage sessions are recommended for 2 to 4 weeks, provided there are no contraindications.

In some cases, with a doctor's approval, it is possible to start 24 hours after the operation.

Always consult your doctor before scheduling MLD sessions.

  • Manual lymph drainage prior to surgery helps to drain and stimulate the lymphatic system before it is inhibited, and possibly spasmed, by surgical trauma and medication.

    Lymphatic drainage before surgery:

    • Prepares tissue for surgery

    • Detoxifies tissues

    • Stimulates the immune system; accelerates lymphocyte production.

    • Induces a state of relaxation; promotes parasympathetic response.

  • Post-surgical manual lymph drainage has the following beneficial effects:

    • Reduces post-surgical swelling

    • Helps stimulate and divert the lymphatic system; manual lymphatic mapping enables the therapist to discover alternative lymphatic pathways.

    • Reduces pain

    • Relieves spasms (promotes parasympathetic response).

    • Detoxification helps reverse the accumulation of toxins secondary to the effects of medication and immobilization.

    • Stimulates the immune system, helps prevent post-surgical infections.

    • Improves skin regeneration, healing and optimizes the healing process.

    • Can help prevent hypertrophic scarring.

    • Anti-inflammatory and preventive effects.
