Lymphatic drainage for pregnant women

Lymphatic massage regulates fluids in the body, which can be particularly beneficial during pregnancy. Manual lymphatic massage (MLD) is a gentle form of massage that helps combat water retention (also known as edema) and the elimination of toxins.

During pregnancy, generally from the fifth month onwards, venous return begins to deteriorate. To remedy this, lymphatic drainages adapted to pregnant women can be performed until the end of pregnancy and after childbirth.

  • Manual lymphatic massage (MLD) is a gentle form of massage that helps combat water retention (also known as edema) and promotes the body's natural process of detoxification and toxin elimination. Whether during pregnancy or postnatally, lymphatic massage has many benefits.

  • According to a clinical study published by Nursing Research and Practice in 2013, Cataldo Oportus et al"peripheral edema is the most common and resistant manifestation in pregnant women. Its etiology includes sodium and water retention and changes in circulation related to the effect of the gravid uterus on the inferior vena cava."

Lymphatic massage for pregnant women may be indicated in the following cases:

    • Swollen feet, ankles and legs

    • Feeling tired and weary

    • Helps normalize milk flow

    • To reduce puffy eyes

    • Carpal tunnel in pregnancy

    • Can help speed up the healing process after a Caesarean or C-section

    • Increase energy levels

  • If you suffer from heavy legs or water retention, manual drainage by lymphatic massage during pregnancy can provide relief.

Fluid retention during pregnancy can be very temporary and uncomfortable, causing swelling of the ankles, feet and legs, reducing mobility and comfort.

Lymphatic massage can be performed at any time, but is most useful when you start to feel an accumulation of fluid in your feet or legs. You'll notice the difference after just one treatment.

  • This depends on the extent of your veno-lymphatic back congestion. Most women find this treatment beneficial during the last trimester, and some women follow a weekly course.

  • Our lymphatic drainages in Lausanne are priced at:
