Male sexual disorders

Intimacy with our partners is an important part of a fulfilling relationship, and often this includes physical intimacy. When sexual problems arise, they can cause tension and difficulties, whether you're in a relationship or not.

Men are often concerned about premature ejaculation, erectile problems, loss of libido, anorgasmia, which is the inability to reach orgasm during intercourse, and dyspareunia, which is pain during intercourse. Here we take a look at these sexual problems, and explore the ways in which hypnosis can help.

    Premature ejaculation

Premature ejaculation is the term used when a person ejaculates too quickly during intercourse. What is considered "too fast" varies from person to person. According to the NHS in Great Britain, a study of 500 couples from different countries revealed that the average time taken to ejaculate is around five and a half minutes. There is no "correct" duration for intercourse, but it's up to the couple to decide.

If you feel that about half of your sexual encounters result in premature ejaculation, and this is becoming a problem, you may want to seek professional help. There are two types of premature ejaculation, primary premature ejaculation, where the problem has always existed, and secondary premature ejaculation, where the problem has only recently developed. It can be useful to know which of the two is your case, and knowing this can help you, when you visit your doctor.

Consulting your GP is a good first step, as he or she will be able to explore the possible causes of the problem. These may be physical, psychological or a combination of both. The most common psychological causes are depression, stress, relationship problems and sexual performance anxiety.

How hypnosis can help premature ejaculation

Hypnosis works at the subconscious level, encouraging positive changes, through the power of suggestion. As stress and anxiety can often fuel premature ejaculation, hypnosis for stress and anxiety can be particularly useful. Hypnosis can also help improve self-confidence and self-esteem, as well as visualization.

    Erectile problems

It's very common for men to be unable to achieve or maintain an erection. Alcohol consumption, stress and fatigue are typical causes of these problems, and should not be a cause for concern. However, if you start having problems more regularly, you may want to consult your doctor.

Like premature ejaculation, erectile problems, also known as erectile dysfunction or impotence, can be caused by physical or psychological reasons. If you have erectile problems only occasionally, for example, if you can get erections in the morning but not during intercourse, this may indicate a psychological cause.

Mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety, can lead to erectile problems, and if so, your doctor may recommend counseling. Sex therapy may be recommended, particularly if you feel your relationship is being affected. Hypnosis is another option, which can help reduce stress and anxiety, and improve self-confidence.

How can hypnosis help with erectile dysfunction?

Stress and performance anxiety can be key factors when it comes to erectile dysfunction, and this is where hypnosis can come in. A hypnotherapist will be able to effect changes at the subconscious level, to help you respond better to stress and reduce anxiety.
