STOP TOBACCO in hypnosis

1. Is hypnosis effective for quitting smoking?
P.-A.G.: "Yes, it's very effective; I myself quit smoking 7 years ago, thanks to hypnosis, after many unsuccessful attempts (patches, medication, nicotine substitutes). I've since helped dozens of my clients quit smoking."
2. How does hypnosis work to stop smoking?
P.-A.G.: "Hypnosis will act on your subconscious by reprogramming it, in order to give up bad habits linked to smoking, replacing them with healthy habits that are beneficial to you and your health."
3. Why is willpower important, but not always enough?
P.-A.G.: "Willpower isn't always enough to bring about change, because it's linked to the conscious mind and its critical factor, which acts as a barrier, preventing any external suggestion from reaching the subconscious. This is why, in hypnosis, we bypass the conscious mind and its critical factor to address the subconscious directly."
4. How does a stop smoking hypnosis session work?
P.-A.G.: "During the first session, we'll get to know you, understand your relationship with cigarettes and your habits, and gauge your level of motivation to quit. After explaining hypnosis and how it works, we'll run a few tests to assess your readiness to enter a hypnotic trance. Then comes the deep trance stage, when your subconscious receives the important information it needs to reprogram itself and make the changes needed to free yourself from tobacco.
A week later, a second session will enable us to work more specifically on the feelings or sensations that have arisen since we stopped smoking. A month later, we'll take stock of the situation and make any necessary adjustments. And finally a fourth session that can either be scheduled or kept in reserve should you feel the need in the future to boost your subconscious to remain a non-smoker."
5. When does the urge to smoke disappear?
P.-A.G.: "You become a non-smoker after the first session. Then there are what I call "the first times", i.e. the moments in life when we used to do something with a cigarette in our hand. And that's where hypnosis comes in, because we're going to reteach the subconscious that it's possible to do something other than light a cigarette in those moments.
However, it's important to remember that for some people, the desire to smoke never completely disappears. I think of my father, who gave up smoking in 1977, and who sometimes says to us after a festive meal: "I'd love to have a cigar". That's why it's important, once you've quit, never to light another cigarette. "Just one is already one too many.
